2021 Honda Pilot AWD
The Honda SUV family is full of great options, so it’s no surprise that you’re curious about the capabilities of each one. In this guide we talk about the new Honda Pilot AWD, which is available in upgraded models of the Honda Pilot. The Honda Pilot AWD system is one of the most advanced systems to ensure unstoppable driving dynamics regardless of the driving conditions. Front-wheel drive comes standard with all Pilot models, but if you upgrade to all-wheel drive you’ll be able to handle the tough terrain beyond the paved surfaces of Columbia and any adverse weather conditions you might encounter in Irmo. Keep reading to find out more about the Honda Pilot AWD in this guide from Honda of Columbia!
Honda Pilot AWD Models
The new 2021 Honda Pilot comes in seven trim levels, all of which have available AWD and two of which come with standard AWD. These seven trim levels are:
- Honda Pilot LX
- Honda Pilot EX
- Honda Pilot EX-L
- Honda Pilot Special Edition
- Honda Pilot Touring
- Honda Pilot Elite
- Honda Pilot Black Edition
Across the first five trims, the Intelligent Variable Torque Management™ (i-VTM4®) AWD System is available, and for the Honda Pilot Elite and Black edition it comes standard.
What is the Honda Pilot AWD System?
The Honda Pilot comes with the special Intelligent Variable Torque Management™ (i-VTM4™) AWD. This system adjusts the distribution of torque to each of your wheels on a millisecond by millisecond basis by sensing the amount of torque required by each at any moment. When wheels are most in need of traction, the engine torque is directed to them. Advanced engineering allows the clutch to activate separately and independently for each rear wheel, depending on the torque distribution. This intelligent performance delivers peace of mind to every Pilot driver, whether they’re driving in low-traction and dry conditions, or somewhere outside West Columbia that has icy, snowy roads.
2021 Honda Pilot Performance
The performance of the new Honda Pilot depends on more than just AWD! There are a number of features that deliver remarkable performance. These include:
- 280 hp, 262 lb-ft of torque 3.5L V6 Engine
- Intelligent Traction Management
- 9-Speed Automatic Transmission (9AT) with Shift-By-Wire (SBW) and Paddle Shifters
- MacPherson Strut Front Suspension
- Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with Traction Control
- 5,000-pound Towing Capacity
